          USDF Instructor Certification

The USDF Instructor Certification Program is designed to educate instructors about the theory and skills that are fundamental to teaching classical concepts of dressage. Certification candidates must demonstrate proficiency according to specified standards for each certification category offered. The four certification categories offered are:

Certified Instructor/Trainer; Training through Second Level
Recognized Teacher; Training through Second Level
Certified Instructor/Trainer; Third through Fourth Level
Recognized Teacher; Third through Fourth Level

Certification candidates have required and recommended reading materials to help prepare for the exam, and attend workshops on lunging, riding, teaching, and pre-certification mock testing. USDF recognizes those who participate in the workshops but do not undergo the rigorous testing phases through the Associate Instructor program.

For more information on this program, you may visit the USDF Website at www.usdf.org or contact the Instructor Certification Program Liaison at (859) 971-2277 or instructorcertification@usdf.org.

Dressage Scholarships Available to attend the 2008 Lendon Gray Youth Dressage Festival

The Tenth Annual Youth Dressage Festival will be held at the HITS Showgrounds in Saugerties, NY.

 July 18-20, 2008

Lendon Gray has been instrumental in advancing dressage for junior and young riders. The Youth Dressage Festival is a competition that highlights the dedication of riders 21 and younger. During this weekend, individuals compete in dressage seat equitation, individual dressage tests and a written exam. There is opportunity to have "roving trainers" work with you and the sponsors of the event have provided great prizes. The United States Pony Club is sponsoring individuals from all USEF or FEI JR/YR dressage levels to be part of a team to representing USPC. Please start and plan to earn your qualifying scores and be part of a fun and exciting weekend.  You can find out more information about this great show at www.dressage4kids.com/

The USPC plans to send one or two teams to Lendon's Gray's Youth Dressage Festival this year.  The plan is to send a team for the FEI Division as well as a lower level team.  While most of the cost of this competition will be the responsibility of the competitor, the Dressage Committee is doing fundraising to assist with entry fees and stabling costs.  To qualify for the USPC team you will need to file a declaration of intent to compete as well as fulfillinf the qualifying criteria.

The show has been moved up one month and will be July 18-20, 2008.  Because of this some of the qualifying requirements have changed.  Anyone who competed in the Youth Dressage Festival in 2007 is automatically qualified for 2008 at the same level. Otherwise, riders need two (2) scores of 55% or higher from any USEF or FEI dressage test of the level or a higher level since Jan 1, 2007. USEA tests may be used as well. The score may be received from any competition (including schooling shows, events, and Pony Club competitions) whose judge is a USDF 'L' graduate, USEF or FEI Dressage judge. The two scores do not have to be on the same horse. Rider must submit a copy of the tests front page only with entry form.  The deadline for USPC Declarations is June 1, 2008.

The National Dressage Pony Cup

The National Dressage Pony Cup will hold its inaugural show on June 28th and 29th, 2008 at Paxton Farm in Cincinnati Ohio. The show was created by a group of pony owners in order to promote ponies, their breeders and riders in Dressage competition in the United States. Ponies of all breeds are invited to attend the USDF/USEF show held in conjunction with Paxton Farms Summer Classic. The ponies will be officially measured at the show unless they already have a permanent measurement card. Thanks to generous donations and sponsorships, the show will be able to award some fantastic prizes and recognize the achievements of the winning ponies. There are also rider awards for Pony Club riders, youth and adult riders, high point breed specific awards and even a special award for the oldest pony competing.  Classes will be held on Saturday and Sunday, the pony cup consists of one class per day per level, Intro through FEI. Ponies may compete in more than one level and/or with more than one rider. We are planning an Award Ceremony after the classes are completed on Sunday, complete with photographer and videographer. For more information visit the show website at www.dressageponycup.com.
